Train Ride Today (Life in NYC)

While I was on the F train today, on my way to 7th Avenue, I passed by the Smith-9th Street station. It's amazing how industrial yet glamorous the city looks. On one side you have factory upon factory with old buildings in between. Additionally, there are the many bridges connecting one borough to another, each with its unique design. On the other side, there's the tall buildings full of windows lined up in rows crowded in Manhattan; the infamous New York City skyline.
Why is it that when people (many of which have never been to the city) think of New York City, they picture Manhattan with its bright lights and iconic venues and crowded streets and just a city with people that have learned to coexist with one another? Other peoples' portrayal of this city make me laugh at times; I hear NYC and I try to think of solutions to problems the average New Yorker faces everyday. When I do have time to contemplate life in the city, I can't help but think of the peaceful neighborhood I lived on with the local bakery and library.
I think that the beauty of NYC is a tad bit overrated and sometimes even exaggerated in the movies. Let's be honest, those of us living in the city that never sleeps know that NYC has its cons. For example, the trains are dirty and have a tendency to smell bad, the streets are littered on, and the buildings fall apart as new houses are built and businesses open up.
The imperfections of this city are what make life here so intriguing. This is why I think that New York is so wondrous: no matter how many times I go to Manhattan or take a walk around Brooklyn, the scene is never the same. There are always new people to see and new events going on. Living in the neighborhood I lived on provided me with an interesting perspective on life because the serenity masked the fast pace of life.

Il Volo

I recently posted a video on YouTube (my first upload!) of Il Volo performing at Barnes & Noble on March 4, 2012. They were at Barnes & Noble for a short performance and to sign their most recent CD/DVD Il Volo Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House.
I was so excited to see them up close for the first time so naturally, waiting in line for four to five hours was completely worth it to me. The three of them sang Il Mondo and O' Sole Mio. *Note to Self: I really need to learn Italian so I can be able to communicate with them if I get the opportunity to meet them again.* :)
For those who don't know, Il Volo is a group of three Italian teens who sing operatic pop whose members are Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone, and Ignazio Boschetto.
Il Volo is coming back to NYC on September 4th and will be performing at the Beacon Theatre. Tickets are on sale starting April 14th (this Saturday). I'm so excited!! My mom now recognizes their talent and wants to go see them as well, so that can only mean that I will most likely see them in concert again. Of course, my younger brother now loves them too and won't allow us to leave him behind on such a wonderful opportunity.
I can only suggest that anyone interested in listening to these talented guys visit their website (ilvolomusic.com). You can see their performance at Barnes and Noble here.

Shopping Experience Gone Bad

I'm very, very tired but I felt the need to post.
I went shopping today at Macy's on 34th Street and it started out pretty good but it all went downhill when I tried on a few dresses.
I was cruising the Juniors' section and I spotted some fabulous items (especially from Material Girl and American Rag) that I wished to see in my closet at some point in life. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case since I had to buy an outfit or a new pair of shoes for my best friend's Quinceanera. The bad part wasn't that I had to buy nice clothes for my friend's party; the bad part was that I had to look through racks and racks of dresses that were in the prom section. It was a total nightmare. There were dresses of all kinds that weren't even that pretty. In the end, I miraculously found a few that I liked and took them to the fitting room.
This is when I entered hell. I tried on the dresses and they were either small, big, or unapproved by my mom. At this point in time I was craving some Ben & Jerry's ice cream but we continued looking for the perfect dress. We entered the woman's section at Macy's and found some nice Calvin Klein dresses. I was too tired to try them on and the price was a bit too much for my mom. Finally, we gave up on the dresses and walked towards the shoe department.
To sum it up, I found these really cute shoes but left devastated after the sales manager failed to bring me my size 7. I never found out whether she'd brought them or not because I left, feeling both angry and hungry; we'd spent four hours at Macy's to then leave the store empty-handed.
It wasn't until two hours later that we finally ate some delicious food due to the fact that I was forced to enter more shoe stores. Thank goodness I had bought a double chocolate brownie and Naked OJ from Starbucks.
The return home was pretty bad since I had a massive headache (and still do). It feels good to finally be able to sit in my pj's and hoodie and relieve my frustration through this blog post. I'm a survivor.

Spring Break

I am happy to announce that I am officially on spring break. Exciting, right? That means I'll have time to blog more often (yay)! :{)
I don't really know what to write about, but I guess I'll share the fact that I'm currently listening to my broken iPod. I have an iPod touch but I wanted to listen to my old iPod Nano. I'll share a photo of it...
As you can see, the top is completely loose. The top part falls often; i'm surprised it still works.

Apology Letter for Lack of Posting (tear, tear)

Well, what can I say? I haven't posted in a LOOOONG time. Sorry. It's just that being that I'm still in high school, (anyone reminiscing on those wonderful years of their life?) I have to study (even if it's the night before) for midterms and work on projects; ah, the good life. I still have a load of midterms to study for. Oh sure, I'll let you know my busy schedule-- thank you for asking!
Tomorrow I have an English midterm, Tuesday I have a math midterm, Wednesday I have a global midterm, Thursday is just Thursday, and Friday... I'M ON SPRING BREAK (or at least I think it's spring break). I don't know, these past few days have been crazy and this week won't be the exception. Maybe I shouldn't be complaining as much since I hear that living in the "real world" with a job and everything isn't necessarily paradise. I'll try to complain less. Yes, I think I'll be able to accomplish a lot more that way.
I need to find interesting topics to blog about. I know that no one really reads my stuff but I want this blog to be about the daily life of a teenage New Yorker. Of course, that's a bit impossible considering the amount of work and stress one must deal with as a high school student. Oh right, I'm not supposed to complain. Trust me, i'll go to different places the entire week I have off from school... or so I hope. I'll find something new and totally random to do during my break and just blog about it. I think that sounds pretty fun, don't you? :)
On the bright side, I just finished watching Beauty and the Briefcase, starring Hilary Duff. I find the film's ability to make investment banking seem like the best job in the world impressive. Honestly, I give props to Hilary's personality, both as the character she played as well as her actual charming self. I have so many thoughts on the film but I'm too tired to type them out. Some thoughts are just better to store in your mind, not your blog.
Well, that's all for today because I have an English midterm tomorrow, which I will get a high grade on (95-100 is my goal).
     Later! :{D
