An Update On Life

As you know, it's summer! Well, in the States that is. Summer vacation started a long time ago and July is already over. I am deeply saddened by this because unfortunately I have rarely gone out to enjoy the city during my free time. There is, of course, a logical explanation as to why I have spent my entire July locked up in an apartment in Red Hook, Brooklyn. There are two reasons for such ludicrous behavior. Reason One: School ended for me on June 26 but I got sick as soon as classes ended... literally. I was sick for two weeks which stopped me from bike riding. Reason Two: I am transferring to a different school in the fall and so I (along with every other student in my new school) have summer assignments to complete.
I cannot complain because I truly want to attend my new school and am determined to work hard this school year. Surprise, there are still some high school students that aren't bothered by homework! To add on, I have homework assignments from four different school subjects and so I haven't fully completed any assignments (I'm sorry, I'm still a teen, procrastination is my middle name sometimes!). The bad part about this is that I have to finish all of my homework before the end of August, which is when I will be taking a trip to Mexico along with my siblings. So you see, I'm not all that boring.
But of course, being that I am growing up I'm going to need to start finding a job or at least do some community service. My lazy days are over. And to be honest, being lazy isn't the best thing in the world. Especially because you get tired of doing nothing for long periods of time. Being lazy is even worse when you're living in a city like New York because you miss out on the many events that go on not just in Brooklyn, but in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. My advice to you if you're just visiting NYC: try to spend most of your time outside your hotel or wherever you're staying. You never know who you might bump into or what cool concert is being held for free at the park. Don't plan your day out, let your feet take you wherever they want to. But please, don't do anything illegal.

School's Over, A New Journey Awaits

Well, school is finally over. I can't really say that I'm relieved because I don't feel that way. My first year of high school is over. For the first three months or so all I thought about was how much I despised the school and it's classes and how badly I wanted to transfer. I admit that I entered the school (which will remain unnamed) with the mentality that it would be my first and only year there. If I would've known how much better things were going to get then I might have reconsidered asking for a transfer. As the year went on I was becoming more accustomed to life at the school, yet I wasn't liking it. It wasn't until January that I actually began to make friends. These friends would stick by my side throughout the entire year. Even with these good friends I was still praying to get my results. When I finally received these results in March I was ecstatic. I was relieved that the many months of work and dedication had gotten me into the school that I wanted to be in since 8th grade. I told every one of my friends and they seemed to be pretty happy about it. Of course, being such close friends meant that when I left the school the following year I wouldn't be with them. This brought sadness to me. My sadness wouldn't come to an end though. During parent-teacher conferences I was told by my English teacher that he had recommended me for the English honors class next year. I was deeply saddened because I like English and an opportunity like this would mean that I would take on much more serious work for 10th grade. That's really great but only if I would've stayed.
Don't get me wrong, I am very, very excited to be going to the school I'll be in next year. I feel like I will do well there. I've worked really hard to get into the school and I'll put an equal or even greater effort to get the best grades possible. The only unfortunate part is that I won't be taking French like I had hoped. But anyways, I'll do great either way.
My friends at my former high school are all really intelligent and I hope to see them again. I know they'll do an exceptional job in school. Who knows, maybe I'll even go into their graduation and from there we'll hang out as adults and go to awesome places. :D We might change just a slight bit as time goes by but that's okay because we'll still be cool people.
And for the friends I will be meeting at my new school very soon: (insert British accent) hello, I'm Jacky and I'm a Belieber. It seems that we'll be having an amazing and dramatic three years of school ahead of us. But hey, I'm ready for the adventure...

A Little Catching Up

It's been quite a while since I've written a post, so I've decided to take this lovely Saturday night to catch up.
School. School has gone very well actually. I recently finished my global rough draft (yay!) and am now mainly focused on passing the regents in June. Luckily, this will be my first and last year taking regents since I'm transferring to another school in the fall.
I haven't gone out much which is a bummer. I love going to the city whenever I get the chance but my laziness has prevented me from going anywhere. I guess another reason why I haven't been anywhere is because the weather in NYC has been gloomy. Though this past week presented itself with light showers, the afternoons were always really hot.
Speaking of hot, summer's coming. That means that I have to start shopping for shorts and new sunglasses. :) Of course, the fast-approaching summer also means that the school year is coming to an end. As mentioned before, I will be going to a different school next year. I've experienced some very horrible moments in my current school but I've met some great people (including teachers). Though I'm eager to attend my new school, I know I'll miss quite a few people from the current school I'm in. But oh we'll, life goes on and I'll just have to follow.
As for my plans for the fall, I still haven't bought my tickets to see Il Volo. :(

Train Ride Today (Life in NYC)

While I was on the F train today, on my way to 7th Avenue, I passed by the Smith-9th Street station. It's amazing how industrial yet glamorous the city looks. On one side you have factory upon factory with old buildings in between. Additionally, there are the many bridges connecting one borough to another, each with its unique design. On the other side, there's the tall buildings full of windows lined up in rows crowded in Manhattan; the infamous New York City skyline.
Why is it that when people (many of which have never been to the city) think of New York City, they picture Manhattan with its bright lights and iconic venues and crowded streets and just a city with people that have learned to coexist with one another? Other peoples' portrayal of this city make me laugh at times; I hear NYC and I try to think of solutions to problems the average New Yorker faces everyday. When I do have time to contemplate life in the city, I can't help but think of the peaceful neighborhood I lived on with the local bakery and library.
I think that the beauty of NYC is a tad bit overrated and sometimes even exaggerated in the movies. Let's be honest, those of us living in the city that never sleeps know that NYC has its cons. For example, the trains are dirty and have a tendency to smell bad, the streets are littered on, and the buildings fall apart as new houses are built and businesses open up.
The imperfections of this city are what make life here so intriguing. This is why I think that New York is so wondrous: no matter how many times I go to Manhattan or take a walk around Brooklyn, the scene is never the same. There are always new people to see and new events going on. Living in the neighborhood I lived on provided me with an interesting perspective on life because the serenity masked the fast pace of life.

Il Volo

I recently posted a video on YouTube (my first upload!) of Il Volo performing at Barnes & Noble on March 4, 2012. They were at Barnes & Noble for a short performance and to sign their most recent CD/DVD Il Volo Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House.
I was so excited to see them up close for the first time so naturally, waiting in line for four to five hours was completely worth it to me. The three of them sang Il Mondo and O' Sole Mio. *Note to Self: I really need to learn Italian so I can be able to communicate with them if I get the opportunity to meet them again.* :)
For those who don't know, Il Volo is a group of three Italian teens who sing operatic pop whose members are Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone, and Ignazio Boschetto.
Il Volo is coming back to NYC on September 4th and will be performing at the Beacon Theatre. Tickets are on sale starting April 14th (this Saturday). I'm so excited!! My mom now recognizes their talent and wants to go see them as well, so that can only mean that I will most likely see them in concert again. Of course, my younger brother now loves them too and won't allow us to leave him behind on such a wonderful opportunity.
I can only suggest that anyone interested in listening to these talented guys visit their website (ilvolomusic.com). You can see their performance at Barnes and Noble here.

Shopping Experience Gone Bad

I'm very, very tired but I felt the need to post.
I went shopping today at Macy's on 34th Street and it started out pretty good but it all went downhill when I tried on a few dresses.
I was cruising the Juniors' section and I spotted some fabulous items (especially from Material Girl and American Rag) that I wished to see in my closet at some point in life. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case since I had to buy an outfit or a new pair of shoes for my best friend's Quinceanera. The bad part wasn't that I had to buy nice clothes for my friend's party; the bad part was that I had to look through racks and racks of dresses that were in the prom section. It was a total nightmare. There were dresses of all kinds that weren't even that pretty. In the end, I miraculously found a few that I liked and took them to the fitting room.
This is when I entered hell. I tried on the dresses and they were either small, big, or unapproved by my mom. At this point in time I was craving some Ben & Jerry's ice cream but we continued looking for the perfect dress. We entered the woman's section at Macy's and found some nice Calvin Klein dresses. I was too tired to try them on and the price was a bit too much for my mom. Finally, we gave up on the dresses and walked towards the shoe department.
To sum it up, I found these really cute shoes but left devastated after the sales manager failed to bring me my size 7. I never found out whether she'd brought them or not because I left, feeling both angry and hungry; we'd spent four hours at Macy's to then leave the store empty-handed.
It wasn't until two hours later that we finally ate some delicious food due to the fact that I was forced to enter more shoe stores. Thank goodness I had bought a double chocolate brownie and Naked OJ from Starbucks.
The return home was pretty bad since I had a massive headache (and still do). It feels good to finally be able to sit in my pj's and hoodie and relieve my frustration through this blog post. I'm a survivor.
